Welcome to Nauru, Nauru is a coral-shaped island located in the Pacific Ocean. Dominated by a phosphate plateau, surrounded by coral reefs, palm trees and sandy beaches. Being part of Oceania, the country is only 25 miles from the equator. The official language is Nauru, English becomes a social language. Nauru is the smallest country in the world, both in terms of the area and the population. Most countries do not "read" on planet earth. But make no mistake, the income per capita of citizens of Nauru is one of the highest in the universe. Its inhabitants are among the most prosperous under the sky. In Nauru there will be no cities like the big country. Residents live in small settlements, which are administratively called districts. Yaren district can be regarded as the capital. In addition to Yaren, there are 13 other districts. In these districts residents live. PLEASE SUBCRIBE!

5 – San Marino - 61 km² San Marino is a tiny country 61 square kilometers in size that is completely surrounded by Italy. It has a population of 32,000 people, one of the lowest unemployment rates in Europe, no national debt and more cars than people. It’s located two and half hours drive south of Venice near the coast of the Adriatic Sea. San Marino claims to be the oldest surviving sovereign state and constitutional republic in the world. San Marino is also one of the wealthiest countries in the world in terms of GDP per capita. 4 – Tuvalu - 26 km² Tuvalu formerly know as Ellice Islands is located between Hawaii and Australia. It’s total land mass is 26 kilometers squared, when viewed from above is essentially the ring of a large underwater land mass that hasn’t quite breached the surface yet. Tuvalu has a population of 10,650 people which come from Polynesian descent. Most of the people live in Funafuti and the surrounding connected land to it. The traditional foods eaten in Tuvalu are pulaka, bananas, breadfruit, taro, coconut and seafood. Locals often catch flying fish on a boat with a spotlight and a butterfly net. 3 – Nauru - 21 km² Nauru is a tiny island off the coast of Australia being only 21 square kilometers in size. It is the smallest island nation in the world but not the smallest country. It was once one of the richest countries in the world back with the boom of Phosphate mining in the 1970’s. Most of the phosphate is gone now and since the country has struggled until Australia started up a detention camp on the island. The camp itself has created over 100 jobs as well as helping all the local businesses. Before the camps were setup the unemployment rate was around 90%. This was due to the country being so rich from mining that wealth was distributed and the people of Nauru no longer felt the need to work. This had an extra effect of people no longer, fishing or gardening and became very sedentary. Soon followed as the importation of western food which has lead to 97% of the population being overweight or obese. Now over 40% of the population suffers from type 2 diabetes. 2 – Monaco - 2 km² Monaco is an incredibly tiny country only 2 square kilometers in size located on the south western tip of France. It is bordered on 3 sides by france and 1 side by the Ligurian sea. Monaco is known for 2 things really, first gambling. There are 5 casinos in Monaco, 3 of which have been featured in 3 different James Bond movies. Secondly Monaco is known for the annual Monaco Grand Prix race which runs through the narrow streets with tight turns at high speeds. Most of Monaco’s 36,000 residents are millionaires and billionaires with only 1/5th the population actually born there. Monaco is a constitutional monarchy dating back to the 1300s. It is run by the Grimaldi family, the oldest ruling house in Europe. 1 – Vatican - 0.44 km² The Vatican is the smallest country in the world at only 0.44 square kilometers. Located in the city of Rome, the Vatican is known for having the largest church in the world, St. Peter’s Basilica. The Vatican also has the smallest population of any country in the world at 842 people. That includes over 100 swiss guards, cardinals, clergy and one nun. The bulk of the population live abroad in diplomatic positions around the world. The swiss guard, you know those guys in fully looking jester outfits, were hired in 1506 to protect the pope and has been this way ever since. Benito Mussolini signed the papers in 1929 allowing the Vatican to be it’s own country. Along with it’s freedom they were given 92 million dollars (around 1 billion dollars today). The Vatican GPD ranks 18th richest in the world which primarily comes from donations from Catholic churches, souvenirs, stamps, collectables and museum tour fees. In this Doomsday sermon from the redwoods, I read from journalist Jack Hitt's excellent essay on the wasted island nation of Nauru, "Island of the Damned," about what happens when a society chooses to sell out its own habitat for money. (From the highly recommended book, "Naked: Writers Uncover the Way We Live on Earth," edited by Susan Zakin.)

If you are looking for some adventures like Captain Jack Sparrow, but off course safer, you should have a look at our list of top 5 unheard islands. 5. Aldabra Island Aldabra, situates in the Indian Ocean, is one of the most remote destinations as it has remained virtually untouched by humans. It’s the world’s second largest coral atoll in the Aldabra Group of islands that form part of the Seychelles. As a result of its extreme isolation, it is home to distinct fauna, which includes the world and largest collection of the Aldabra Giant Tortoise, hammerhead sharks, barracuda, and manta rays, the world and;s largest land crab, the Coconut crab, and was once even home to the horned crocodilian land predator, Aldabrachampsus. The human population is made of alone research officer, an island manager, a few rangers, and their staff. Other than those few people, there is no other permanent population. 4. Cocos Islands The Territory of the Cocos Islands also called and Keeling Islands is a territory of Australia, located in the Indian Ocean, southwest of Christmas Island and approximately midway between Australia and Sri Lanka. Captain William Keeling was the first European to see the islands while serving in the East India Company,[3] but they remained uninhabited until the 19th century. This island has its history as rich as its fauna. Not only was it settled by a wealthy Englishman named Alexander Hare (and his harem of 40 Malay women), but it was the site of a WWI battle (the Battle of Cocos) and an array of WWII events. The territory consists of two atolls and 27 coral islands, of which two, West Island and Home Island, are inhabited with a total population of approximately 600. 3. Nauru Island It was once named a pleasant island by a British whale hunter. On the other hand, "Nauru" may derive from the Nauruan word Anáoero, which means, "I go to the beach". With the area of 8.1 sqm. miles,Nauru is the world's smallest republic and home to 9,378 residents, making it the second-least populated country after Vatican City. Its flora and fauna have been diminished lately due to heavy reliance on phosphate mining. 2. Easter Islands This island lies in the southeast Pacific Ocean and is one of the most remote inhabited islands in the world, with the nearest inhabited island Pitcairn Island - being 1,300 miles away and still only home to 50 people. Easter Island is mostly protected within Rapa Nui National Park since the island has suffered massive soil erosion due to extensive deforestation and massive agriculture. This island is full of monumental statues carved by the early Rapanui people to represent their deceased ancestors - people who have endured famine, disease, civil war, slave raids, colonialism, and steep population declines. 1. Tetepare Island This island belongs to the Pacific Ocean and is the largest unhabituated island. It was originally populated by the ancestors of the villagers who currently live in the surrounding Solomon Islands, but for reasons still unknown, everyone left the island about 200 years ago. However, they left Tetepare in its original state, while still allowing tourists to visit the island. The island is basically perfect for a getaway as it is covered in rainforest and is surrounded by coral reefs Comment below your with your list and don’t forget to share this with your friends and to subscribe for our more weird or crazy facts.
